Houses
Diyarbekir had houses built to suit the environment of the city. They contained multiple water features and used other techniques in order to keep the house cool during the summers. They had different wings for the different seasons, positioned for the optimal temperatures.

Şakarer Evi
The Şakarer Evi (now known as the Esma Ocak Evi) was built in 1899 by the Armenian Şakarer family. According to Diken, it was used as the house of the Surp Giragos Yegeghetsi priest. Haspolat says that it was the house of the Armenian Yemici Baboş.
